Using ‘Payments by Organization’ report in Association Management
Let’s consider a specific scenario where a nursing association utilizes this report:
The association is aiming to analyze donation trends from member hospitals and identify areas for improvement in their fundraising efforts.
Utilizing Filters:
- Organization Name: This can be left blank to get a comprehensive list of all contributing organizations. Alternatively, you can filter by specific hospitals to compare their Payments.
- Relationship Type: This filter can be particularly useful for the nursing association. They can select “Employee of” and choose the association itself from the dropdown menu. This will display Payments made directly by the association, possibly for membership renewals or event registrations, alongside donations made by individual members on behalf of the hospital (employee of the association).
- Payment Date: Define a date range to analyze Payments received within a specific period. This can help track seasonal trends or measure the impact of recent fundraising campaigns.
- Amount Between: Set a minimum and maximum amount to identify Payments within a specific range. This might be useful to assess the distribution of Payment sizes among member hospitals.
- Currency: If the association accepts donations in multiple currencies, you can filter by a specific currency or view the total amount in a preferred currency.
- Payment Status: Filter by Payment status to see how many donations are still pending or if there have been any refunds.
- Campaign: (Optional) If the association runs targeted fundraising campaigns, they can use this filter to see how much each hospital contributed to a specific campaign.
- On Hold: (Optional) This filter can identify Payments that are on hold for any reason.
- Credit Card Type: (Optional) This might be useful for tracking the preferred payment methods used by member hospitals.

More Use Cases for Associations, Chambers of Commerce and Nonprofits
Identify major donors and personalize communication for future fundraising efforts (Association)
The alumni association can use the report to filter by Organization Name to see a list of all contributing organizations (alumni employers). They can then sort by Amount to identify major donors (companies that consistently contribute larger amounts). With this information, the association can personalize communication and tailor future fundraising efforts to these major donors. For instance, they can invite major donors to exclusive events or offer them matching gifts.
Track overall donation trends and identify periods of peak generosity (Chamber of Commerce)
The chamber of commerce can use the report to track overall donation trends from member businesses. They can filter by Payment Date to define a date range (e.g., past year) and see how Payments fluctuated throughout the period. This will help them identify periods of peak generosity, such as around the holiday season. With this knowledge, the chamber can plan their fundraising campaigns strategically to coincide with these periods.
Evaluate campaign effectiveness and segment future outreach (Nonprofit/Advocacy Organization)
The environmental advocacy group can use the report to evaluate the effectiveness of their fundraising campaigns targeting member organizations (environmental businesses). They can filter by Campaign to see how much each organization contributed to a specific campaign. This will help them assess which campaigns resonated most with member organizations. Additionally, they can segment future outreach based on Payment history in the Payment Amount field. For example, they can target high-contributing organizations with requests for donations or volunteering opportunities, while nurturing relationships with low-contributing organizations through educational content or invitations to events.
In conclusion, the ‘Payments by Organization’ report is a powerful tool for Chambers of Commerce, Nonprofits and Associations and other membership organizations. By leveraging the various filters and options, these organizations can gain a deeper understanding of their payer base, optimize their fundraising strategies, and strengthen relationships with members, donors, volunteers and other stakeholders.
